Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Physiotherapist specializing in small companion animals to join our team. The Veterinary Physiotherapist will assess, develop, and implement rehabilitation and therapy programs to help animals recover from injury, surgery, or chronic conditions. This role involves working closely with veterinarians and pet parents to provide tailored therapy plans that improve mobility, alleviate pain, and enhance quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment and Treatment Planning:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of animals’ physical abilities, movement, and range of motion to identify areas of concern.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on each animal’s specific needs, diagnosis, and physical condition.
  • Consult with veterinarians to incorporate physiotherapy plans into overall treatment plans.

Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Techniques:

  • Utilize a variety of physiotherapy techniques, including massage therapy, hydrotherapy, therapeutic exercises, laser therapy, and ultrasound.
  • Use therapeutic equipment to aid recovery and improve the physical function of animals suffering from musculoskeletal or neurological issues.
  • Guide animals through controlled exercises to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and increase range of motion.

Pain Management:

  • Implement pain management techniques and monitor animals for signs of discomfort during and after therapy sessions.
  • Work with veterinarians to adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure effective pain relief and recovery.

Client Communication and Education:

  • Communicate with pet owners about the animal’s progress and explain how physiotherapy will benefit their pet’s recovery or condition.
  • Provide pet owners with at-home exercises, movement restrictions, and other care instructions to support ongoing therapy and recovery.
  • Offer advice on environmental modifications to aid animals in regaining mobility and comfort in their homes.

Client Communication and Education:

  • Communicate with pet owners about the animal’s progress and explain how physiotherapy will benefit their pet’s recovery or condition.
  • Provide pet owners with at-home exercises, movement restrictions, and other care instructions to support ongoing therapy and recovery.
  • Offer advice on environmental modifications to aid animals in regaining mobility and comfort in their homes.

Collaboration with Veterinary Team:

  • Work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other hospital staff to coordinate patient care and treatment goals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss complex cases and adjust treatment plans as needed.

Record Keeping and Progress Monitoring:

  • Maintain detailed records of all therapy sessions, including treatment types, progress notes, and any adjustments made to therapy plans.
  • Track animals’ progress and adjust physiotherapy techniques based on the effectiveness of treatment and patient response.

Professional Development:

  • Stay current with advancements in veterinary physiotherapy, new techniques, and best practices.
  • Attend workshops, seminars, and other continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in veterinary physiotherapy, animal physiotherapy, or a related field.
  • Certification or formal training in animal physiotherapy or rehabilitation
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with companion animals in a clinical or rehabilitation setting.
  • Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, biomechanics, and physical therapy techniques.
  • Compassionate approach with a strong commitment to animal welfare and quality of life.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with pet owners and hospital staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability when working with animals experiencing pain or limited mobility.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Dexterity and physical strength to support animals during therapy exercises and treatments.
