Job Summary:
Laboratory Technician, also known as a Lab Tech, is a scientific and technical professional who assists microbiologist, scientists and researchers in conducting experiments, analyzing samples, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Receiving, labeling and storing sample:
- Lab technician receive, label and safely store sample to be tested such as blood, tissue or toxic sample
Designing and performing testes:
- Perform laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
- Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and materials for experiments and testing.
- Calibrate and operate laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results.
- Collect and process samples, specimens, and data for analysis, recording observations and findings accurately.
- Assist with the development and validation of laboratory methods, procedures, and protocols.
- Conduct quality control checks and assurance procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues and problems related to laboratory equipment, procedures, and processes.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe and secure working environment for laboratory staff and stakeholders.
- Comply with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and laboratory policies and procedures.
Adapting to technological advancements:
- We use a lot of technology, like electronic records and automated systems. Lab technician need to be comfortable with these tools while still focusing on taking care of patients.
- Collaborate with veterinary microbiologist, laboratory staff, scientists, and researchers to support research projects and studies.
- Provide technical support and assistance to laboratory staff, students, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings and continuing education to stay updated on the latest veterinary practices and technologies.
- Contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness of the laboratory facilities and workspaces.
- Maintain laboratory records, logs, and documentation, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Be available for on-call duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related field from accredited college.
- Proven experience as a laboratory technician or technologist, with a strong technical background in laboratory procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment, instruments, and materials, and proficiency in their operation and maintenance.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work, with a commitment to quality and precision.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with the ability to collect, process, and analyse samples accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to follow established protocols, procedures, and safety guidelines in laboratory operations.
- Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing changing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to interact professionally with laboratory staff, scientists, and stakeholders.

- Primarily based in a veterinary hospital.
